Time change for meeting, Archery, Cooking lesson.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to remind you that we will be meeting this week but from 5:00 – 6:00 instead of our usual time due to scheduling conflicts with other events happening that day.  The girls will be assembling care kits for the homeless women of Sarah’s Circle.  As a troop they voted to use proceeds from this year’s cookie sales to purchase items for these care kits.  We will be assembling 100 kits that will each contain travel size shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, deodorant, tooth brushes, toothpaste, and shaving kits.  I was also hoping that the girls could include little encouraging messages in these kits.

Camp Fees:

All camp fees need to be turned in by this Wednesday, May 1st,  Anyone wishing to pay electronically can submit payment through Venmo or Zelle.  Please see the user names below to submit payments on line.  Any checks can be made payable to girl scouts.  The cost is $55.00 per person.

Zelle: alcamacho75@gmail.com

Venmo: lexi-girlscouts

Archery Outing:

I have set up an archery outing for the Juniors and Cadettes so they can earn their Archery Badge.  Please see the details below and please R.SVP no later than May 5th as I need to provide an attendance count. Parents do not need to stay for the lesson if they don’t wish to.

Where: American Indian Center – 3401 W. Ainslie St

Cooking Lesson – New Meals Badge

As a final badge endeavor we will be earning our New meals badge.  Please see the details and permission slip below.  There will need to be a small fee per girl involved but the troop will also be subsidizing the majority of the cost.  If cost will be a deciding factor please let me know and we may be able to look into financial assistance.  It should be a really fun event and I would not want the cost to be a negating factor for anyone.  The only availability they had before year end was on May 29th.  We do not have a meeting scheduled that day as our year end celebration is the 31st but I’m hoping that everyone will be able to attend.  Please RSVP for this event no later than May 15th.

When: Wednesday, May 29th from 6:00-7:30

Where: The Kid’s Table – 2864 N Lincoln Ave

Cost: $20.00 per girl

I know its a lot to digest but i hope we can end the year on a high note.  Please let me know if you have any questions or issues,  See you all this Wednesday at 5:00!

Tonight’s meeting cancelled!

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the short notice but after hearing that the majority of girls will not be able to attend tonight’s meeting because of other spring break obligations I have decided to cancel tonight’s meeting.

Juniper Knoll Payment

Camp fees will be due no later than May 1st.  Electronic payment through Venmo or Zelle is preferred but  I will take cash or checks (Payable to Girl Scouts) on the 1st.

Homeless Drive

The girls have decided to put their efforts towards helping the homeless for this year’s service project.  To that end we are asking for items to donate to the homeless shelter.  We will also be putting together care packages for the homeless with items purchased with our cookie money proceeds.  We will be collecting items at our meeting on May 1st.

Planned Outings

I am currently working on planning 2 outings before the end of the year.

I am working with The Kids Table to get a cooking class organized for the girls so they can earn their New Meals badge.

I’m also working with the American Indian Center to schedule an Archery lesson for the girls

Attendance concerns

I realize that as the girls grow their lives become very busy with all sorts of activities and that from time to time it is necessary for the girls to miss a meeting here and there.  While I completely understand  this, it is also important that if girls are not planning to attend a meeting that I be notified in advance.  This will help in making decisions about our agenda and in the purchasing of supplies.

Please let me know if your girls are not interested in attending either the cooking lesson or archery lesson so I can provide accurate counts to the event coordinators.

A big thank you to those that do regularly let me know when your girls need to miss a day.

I hope everyone is having a lovely spring break and hopefully see you all on May 1st.

Last Call for Juniper Knoll!

Hi Everyone,

This is a reminder that I need to know by Monday if your daughters are planning to attend the Juniper Knoll camping trip.

Date: May 17-19th

Cost: $55.00 per person

Please add your names to the signup sheet on the previous blog post or shoot me an email no later than Monday April 1st letting me know how many will be in attendance.  Fathers and brothers are allowed to attend but will be sleeping in separate quarters.

Thank you to those who have already placed their names on the list.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Juniper Knoll Sign Up Needed by 4/1/19 & looking ahead

Hi All,

We had a great meeting this week.  The girls have decided to use their cookie profits in two ways.  The first is a donation towards a fellow Girl Scout named Bella and her mom who recently lost everything including their home in a house fire.  The second use for our cookie profits will go toward helping the homeless.  The girl are organizing a clothing drive and we will be purchasing items to distribute to the homeless.

These girls have such a great heart for giving to the less fortunate and I’m very proud of their passion for this cause.  Cookie Sales are winding down and final counts will be coming in the next week.  We will know then exactly how much money we are working with.

Juniper Knoll 5/17-5/19

I received an email from the Juniper Knoll coordinator indicating that they need a count of all those planning to attend by 4/1/19.  I apologize that its a bit sooner than my previous email indicated but if you and.or your daughter are planning to attend please add your names to the sign up sheet below.  The Cost is $55 which will include a snack Friday night, all meals on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday.  The fee also includes archery and Canoeing.

Its all right in not all parents can attend but I would need a few to help that weekend as well as provide transportation for the girls coming unaccompanied.  It was a lot of fun last year and should be great fun this year as well.

The Cadettes and the Juniors will most likely be bunking together because I am the troop leader for both and will be working with both troops that weekend.

Archery Outing

The girls have expressed a desire to earn their Archery badge this year.  If the girls are planning to attend camp then they will earn the badge at that time.  However, if the majority of girls will not be going to camp I can arrange to have us go on a field trip to Archery Custom Shop in Forest Park.  Even though this location is a bit far (Harlem & Madison) it was the most economical option.

If we choose to go this route we can decide to have the Archery class either on a weeknight (excluding Wednesday) or on a weekend.  If we choose a weekend it will be a couple of weeks out to book but should not be an issue.

Next Year

It may seem a bit early to start thinking about next year but it really is fast approaching.  I hope that all of your girls have enjoyed their scouting experience so far and would love to see them all back next year.  I do realize as they get older and join multiple activities that schedules do get a bit chaotic and it may be difficult to keep up with everything.

In light of the girls evolving schedule and the additional time and work that Cadette badges require I wanted to know if moving our meetings to a different day and time would make things better with everyone and hopefully allow the girls better flexibility to continue with Scouting.  Please let me know if any of the following would be better for next year’s schedules:

  • Keeping our every other Wednesday schedule as is
  • Moving to a different weeknight
  • Moving to a Saturday or Sunday for a 2 hour meeting biweekly
  • Moving to a Saturday or Sunday for a 3 hour meeting Monthly

Responses Requested by 4/1

I know that I just threw a lot of information for you at once to process at once but I would appreciate it if everyone would take the time to think about this and respond back either in a comment to this post or in an email by April 1st to all the following:

  1. Will your daughter/you be attending camp?
  2. If not what day would work better for our proposed Archery Outage?
  3. What are your thoughts for next year’s meeting schedule?

HI Everyone,

I just wanted to remind everyone that we do not meet this week and are back to our original schedule. Our next meeting is next week Wednesday 2/27 at 6:00.

Robotics Workshop

Anyone interested in attending the Robotics Workshop being held on Saturday March 9th needs to RSVP no later than Feb 22nd.  The girls will be building their own robots so we need an accurate count so enough supplies can be ordered.  Any girl that does not RSVP in advance but comes to the workshop will not have a robot to build.  Thank you to those that have already let me know of their interest.

As a thank you for the great job that was done during cookie sales, the troop will be covering the $5 fee for all the girls choosing to attend the workshop.  Please click on the link to access the sign up sheet.

Cookies

Hi everyone,

I wanted to start off by thanking everyone for all your hard work and cookie selling skills. You all did a phenomenal job to help us meet our goals.

Thank you to all that picked up cookies tonight. I’m sorry for the mix up in orders and the confusion at pick up for some of you. As I said previously glitches were likely to happen with the integration of the new online sales platform.

Hopefully you have had time to review your orders for any mistakes. I know some of you may be short some boxes. I am working to get that rectified. Anyone that has missing cookies please send me an email confirmation with what you are still needing and I will get those to you as soon as possible.

If anyone has any extra cookies they weren’t supposed to have please also let me know that as well and I will make arrangements to pick them up from you.

Anyone that has online orders and needs an individual order breakdown please let me know and I will email you what I have for your individual orders.

Have a wonderful evening everyone and thank you again for your efforts and patience.
